3rd Grade Battle of the Books Team with the Championship Trophy.

Both the St. John’s Catholic School 3rd and 4th grade Battle of the Books teams won their respective championships this year!

In Battle of the Books, teams compete against other teams of the same grade level from Loveland-area public, charter, and private schools.

Last May, each grade level was given a list of 12 classic children’s books.  For 3rd grade, they included Charlotte’s Web, The Boxcar Children, Little House in the Big Woods, and 9 other selections.  12 other books were chosen for 4th grade.

Starting in January, students competed against other school teams in head-to-head competitions every week, answering questions based on their knowledge of the selected books. The top teams moved on to compete in a Grand Battle at the Loveland Public   Library on February 10th.  By the time all of the battles were completed, both St. John’s teams emerged victorious.

Battle of the Books is a great extracurricular academic program.  It teaches students reading and comprehension, good study habits, teamwork, and strategy.

We are very proud of our Battle of the Books teams and thankful to their volunteer coaches who did a great job!
